How many people know that the oldest surviving and continuously operating Rama temple is in Karnataka?!
Located in the small hamlet of Hiremagalur (literally, the older daughter’s town) just outside Chikkamagaluru (the younger daughter’s town), there is a beautiful temple of Kalyana-Rama uniquely depicting the Lord with Sita Devi to his right as it would have been before marriage.
It is said that the famed Shilpi Jakanachari visited the temple and was enamoured by the exquisite carving – not only the beautiful tri-bhangi style but also Sita’s posture and gaze reflective of the circumstances of a new bride.
