AashaaDa bahuLa panchami is the Aaradhana of Shri Jayateertha who occupies a unique place in the Madhva tradition. While Shri Madhvaachaarya established the Tattvavaada Siddhanta reviving eternal truths, it was Shri Jayateertha who unfolded its profound depth through clear, rigorous, and authoritative commentaries that remain the foundation of Madhva scholarship to this day. Here is a brief summary highlighting his greatness:
- Revered as the Sixth Pontiff in the lineage of Sri Madhvacharya, disciple of Shri Akshobhya Teertha and the revered Guru in the lineage that includes Shri Vyaasaraaja Teertha and other great saints.
- Teekacharya – the unparalleled commentator whose Teekas illuminate Sri Madhvacharya’s Sarvamoola Granthas. Almost every major work written by later Acharyas—including Shri Vyaasaraaja Teertha, Shri Vaadiraaja Teertha, Shri Raaghavendra Teertha, and many others—builds upon the foundation laid by his immortal Teekas.
- Author of Sri Nyaya Sudha, the magnum opus of Tattvavada expositions and one of the greatest works of Vedantic philosophy.
- Amsha avataara of Indra Deva, with aavesha of Shesha Deva and blessed by Saraswati Devi, Bharati Devi enabling him to compose commentaries of extraordinary clarity, depth, and authority.
- Traditionally believed to be the rebirth of the bull that faithfully carried Shri Madhvaachaarya’s manuscripts and listened to His discourses, fulfilling Acharya’s prophetic words: “व्याख्यास्यत्येष गोराट्”—“This noble bull shall one day write the commentaries.”
- Celebrated not only for his philosophical brilliance but also for his compassion, yogic achievements, miracles, and unwavering devotion to Shri Hari.
- Despite his unparalleled stature, he was profoundly humble and repeatedly attributed every accomplishment solely to the grace of his Guru, Shri Madhvaachaarya, and Shri Hari.

The following verses, composed by later Acharyas in His praise, beautifully capture the scholarship, humility, spiritual advancement, and lasting contribution of this extraordinary saint in the Madhva tradition.
चित्रैः पदैश्च गंभीरैर्वाक्यैर्मानैरखंडितैः ।
गुरु-भावं व्यंजयंती भाति श्रीजयतीर्थवाक् ॥
The speech (वाक्) of Sri Jayatirtha (श्री-जयतीर्थ) shines brilliantly (भाति),
revealing (व्यञ्जयन्ती) the true intent (भावम्) of His Guru (गुरु);
through beautiful and elegant words (चित्रैः पदैः);
through profound and weighty sentences (गम्भीरैः वाक्यैः);
through irrefutable means of valid knowledge and reasoning (अखण्डितैः मानैः).
- गुरु-भावम् refers to the inner meaning and purport of Shri Madhvachaarya’s teachings. Shri Jayateertha’s greatest contribution was making Acharya’s profound works accessible without altering their meaning.
- मानैः refers to pramaaNas, i.e. — valid means of knowledge such as perception, inference, and scriptural testimony. Since Teekaachaarya’s works are firmly based on sound pramaaNa-s, they are praised as अखण्डित (irrefutable).
- Shri Vyaasaraaja beautifully summarizes the unique excellence of Teekacharya: elegance of language (पदैः), profound content (वाक्यैः), and perfect logic (मानैः)—all employed solely to reveal the mind of His Guru, Sri Madhvacharya.
यस्य वाक्कामधेनुर्नः कामितार्थान् प्रयच्छति ।
सेवे तं जययोगींद्रं कामबाणच्छिदं सदा ॥
Whose (यस्य) speech (वाक्), like the divine cow Kaamadhenu (कामधेनुः),
grants (प्रयच्छति) to us (नः) the desired (कामित) results (अर्थान्);
I always (सदा) serve (सेवे) that King of Yogis, Shri Jayateertha (तं जय-योगीन्द्रम्),
who has cut away (च्छिदम्) the arrows (बाण) of desire (काम).
- Shri Vijayeendra Teertha compares Shri Jayateertha’s teachings to Kamadhenu because they bestow all worthy desires including spiritual progress and worldly success.
- काम-बाण (“the arrows of desire”) refers to the binding force of worldly attachment. Shri Jayatirtha helps seekers understand and apply Shri Madhvaachaarya’s teachings leading to devotion to Lord Shri Hari.
